Our Lady of Tenderness – Eleusa, Virgin of Vladmir Icon
Based on the Russian 12th century Virgin of Vladimir icon, Eleusa (Holy Tenderness). According to sacred tradition, the original prototype was painted by St. Luke. When we pray before the icon, the guiding hand of Mary leads us closer to Jesus, as if to say: "I am only here to lead you to Him." Mary wants us to let go of our fears and to trust—as she did—that "the promises of the Lord will be fulfilled" (Lk 1:45).
This sacred image invites us into a deeper understanding of Mary's role as a bridge between humanity and Christ. Her tender embrace of the Child Jesus reflects not only her maternal love but also her unwavering faith in God's plan. Through this icon, we are encouraged to cultivate a heart like hers—full of humility, trust, and devotion—allowing her example to guide us in our own journey of faith and to draw us ever closer to her Son, the source of all grace and peace.
This beautiful icon is perfect for personal devotion or as an inspiring addition to sacred spaces. Where in your home would it go...?
